Case Study: A Solar-Assisted Heat Pump Runs an Entire Office Building in Konya

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

A peer-reviewed study documents how 298 rooftop PV and PVT collectors feeding three 50 kW air-source heat pumps met the full heating demand of a 1,637 m² office building in Konya, provided year-round cooling and exported surplus electricity — eliminating roughly 650 MWh of natural gas consumption between 2020 and 2023.

OPTIX: Building Positive-Energy Districts with Renewable Heating and Cooling

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

OPTIX — Optimising Positive-Energy Districts through Interoperable Digital Platforms — is an EU Clean Energy Transition Partnership project from the Joint Call 2023. Innorma R&D, Solimpeks' R&D start-up, contributes a heat pump system supported by PV and PV/T, monitored via SCADA and refined through a digital twin. The Turkish pilot runs on the Solimpeks building in Konya, where a CETP-funded study of 2020–2023 data reports about 66 % higher energy efficiency and 65 % lower CO2 emissions than conventional fossil-fuel systems.

TÜBİTAK 1507: A Solar-Powered Indirect Evaporative Cooler with a COP of 8.92

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

Under the TÜBİTAK SME R&D Start-up Support Funding Programme, Innorma R&D, Solimpeks' R&D start-up, developed a solar-energy-supported indirect evaporative cooler that cools without adding humidity or using chemical refrigerants. Climate-chamber tests confirmed a maximum COP of 8.92 — 3.12 kW of cooling from roughly 350 W — and roughly 780 Wp of PV capacity is enough to cover its annual energy needs.

SynergistEIC Accelerator: Scaling Our Solar Atmospheric Water Generator

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

The Solar Atmospheric Water Generator (S-AWG) from Innorma R&D, Solimpeks' R&D start-up, was selected for the EU-backed SynergistEIC accelerator for GreenTech start-ups. The plug & play system extracts potable water from air using solar power alone — early prototypes target 2–5 litres per day — and the programme now supports pilot projects and market entry in water-stressed regions.

TÜBİTAK 1507: Harvesting Water from Thin Air with Solar Energy

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

The project by Innorma R&D, Solimpeks' R&D start-up, under the TÜBİTAK SME R&D Start-up Support Programme (project no. 7230226, January 2023–June 2024) built a standalone solar-powered atmospheric water harvester. Three desiccant routes — granular silica gel, an in-house ACFF-LiCl composite and MOF-303 — were tested in a climate chamber, with the solar air collector hitting its 50% thermal efficiency target and composites adsorbing 1.2 g/g at 70% relative humidity.

KOSGEB Project: Developing an Indirect Evaporative Cooler Prototype

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

From 2021 to 2023, Innorma R&D, the R&D start-up of Solimpeks, developed and prototyped an indirect evaporative cooler with KOSGEB R&D support. The aim was an eco-friendly alternative to conventional air conditioning for homes, data centres and the food industry, with cooling close to dew point. The work continued under TÜBİTAK 1507 (2024–2025) as a solar-assisted cooler, for which the team reports a maximum COP of 8.92.

TÜBİTAK 1707: A Next-Generation Solar Collector with Finned Aluminium Absorbers

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

Between December 2022 and May 2024, Solimpeks and its R&D start-up Innorma R&D completed a TÜBİTAK 1707 project (no. 3225044) developing collectors with finned aluminium absorbers clamped to copper tubes. Ten prototypes — thermal and hybrid PV/T — showed that reduced fin counts avoid shading at oblique sun angles, reaching 3–4°C outlet temperature differences at oblique sun angles while enabling lower-cost local production in Turkey.

TÜBİTAK 1707: Plug-and-Play Water Heaters Built for Multi-Source Heating

R&D Projects
Mahmut Sami BükerAssoc. Prof. Dr., Necmettin Erbakan University — Managing Director & Co-founder, Innorma R&D

Solimpeks and its R&D start-up Innorma R&D completed a TÜBİTAK 1707 R&D Order project (no. 3225050) in August 2024, delivering plug-and-play water heaters in 300, 500, 800 and 1000-litre capacities that combine solar and heat pump inputs. Spiral coils, baffles and nested-coil designs raised outlet temperatures by 2–3°C, improved energy transfer by 20–30%, and delivered 400–700 litres of 40°C water per cycle in tests.
