The Solar Atmospheric Water Generator (S-AWG) developed by Innorma R&D, Solimpeks' R&D start-up, has been selected for support by SynergistEIC, an EU-funded (Horizon Europe) accelerator for GreenTech start-ups. For us, the selection is more than a badge: it accelerates a technology we believe can be a game-changer for communities struggling to access clean water.
Why generate water from air?
Our atmosphere holds an incredible amount of water vapour. Traditional water distribution systems can be expensive and energy-intensive — particularly in remote areas — and often leave a significant carbon footprint. The S-AWG offers a different path: it extracts potable water from the air using the power of the sun, with no connection to a traditional grid and zero harmful environmental effects. It is not just about getting water; it is about doing it in a way that aligns with a genuinely greener future.
What does the S-AWG do?
The system is engineered as a plug & play solution: place it in a suitable location with clear air channels, and it starts working. Early prototypes target a capacity of 2–5 litres per day, depending on ambient conditions such as humidity and temperature. The engineering focus has been robustness, reliability, and consistent water production — harnessing renewable energy for a critical resource.
Where can it make a difference?
We see the S-AWG serving a wide range of settings: decentralised, sustainable water for agricultural areas in arid zones; clean drinking water for off-grid installations and rural communities; and applications spanning private yachts and maritime use, municipalities, disaster relief agencies, and hospitality resorts.
Looking broader, commercial operations in water-stressed regions — the Middle East & Africa and the Mediterranean — combine plenty of sun with limited fresh sources, making them natural markets. The atmospheric water market has grown fast, and patent activity — led by the US and China — has risen sharply since 2000, leaving room for our own approach.
What does the accelerator change for us?
Our product roadmap is not just about building the technology; it is about getting it into the hands of those who need it. With SynergistEIC's backing, we are actively identifying potential pilot customers and preparing pilot projects, while our marketing strategy takes shape around direct engagement and strategic partnerships. The goal is clear: an impactful solution that is both commercially viable and deeply beneficial.
The S-AWG builds directly on our TÜBİTAK-funded R&D into solar-assisted atmospheric water generation, where we tested desiccant materials and solar air collectors in climate-chamber and outdoor trials — the engineering foundation the accelerator now helps us scale.
Looking ahead
The S-AWG is more than an engineering project for us; it is a contribution to a more sustainable world and a significant step toward addressing global water scarcity with an energy-efficient, clean, and accessible solution. We are proud of the progress made — and excited about the impact ahead.
